What is T3 Thyroid?
For those who don’t know, the thyroid is a gland located in the human body. It is located in the neck, just below the Adam’s apple. The thyroid gland produces hormones that regulate metabolism and how the body responds to other hormones. The thyroid produces two main types of hormones:
- Triiodothyronine (T3)
- Thyroxine (T4)
Both of these hormones are essential for correcting any malfunctions of the thyroid.
In most treatments for thyroid disorders, doctors generally prescribe T4 (thyroxine). However, if the patient does not respond well to this treatment, T3 may also be administered. In some cases, a combination of T3 and T4 is used, while in others, only T3 is preferred to ensure 100% effective treatment.
In addition to medical treatments, thyroid hormones such as T3 are also used by bodybuilders. Available in the form of medications and supplements, these hormones play a crucial role in maintaining optimal physical condition, which is important for both overall health and the bodybuilding process.
Benefits of Adding T3
- Solution for the Genetic Defect “Deiodinase Polymorphism”: According to research published in a reputable journal, some people have a genetic defect called deiodinase polymorphism, which hinders the conversion of T4 to T3. This may explain why some patients treated with levothyroxine (containing mainly T4) do not respond adequately. For these patients, T3 supplementation is essential.
- Reduction of cholesterol and body weight: A study conducted by a renowned institute has shown that T3, when used as a supplement, reduces cholesterol levels, decreases body weight, and helps treat the symptoms of hyperthyroidism. Furthermore, compared to levothyroxine alone, T3 does not cause significant cardiovascular stress.
- Support for bodybuilders: T3 is widely used by bodybuilders, especially during competition preparation. This hormone helps reduce excess body fat, thereby increasing energy levels and improving muscle definition.
Why use T3?
T3 is essential for proper body function and optimizing metabolism. If your body is already in optimal condition, you may not need to take supplements to build muscle or reduce fat. However, if you’re a bodybuilder or are focusing on body definition, T3 supplementation may be a good option to consider.
