Pregnyl: What is it?
Pregnyl is the brand name for injectable HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), a hormone naturally present in the female body. Produced by Schering-Plough, Pregnyl is a gonadotropic drug. The active ingredient in Pregnyl is an ultra-purified preparation obtained from the urine of pregnant women and is essentially identical to the luteinizing hormone (LH) produced by the male pituitary gland, which signals the testes to begin producing natural testosterone.
Although Pregnyl has a role in bodybuilding, it is not used for bulking or cutting. Pregnyl is not a synthetic steroid, but a hormone commonly used by bodybuilders at the end of steroid cycles to restart testosterone production. It also increases androgens in the body and can help the testicles descend, counteracting testicular atrophy associated with synthetic hormone use.
How does it work?
Because the active ingredient in Pregnyl is similar to the LH produced by the pituitary gland, a Pregnyl injection stimulates the Leydig cells in the testicles to produce testosterone, with the added benefit of restoring normal testicular size if they have been suppressed during steroid cycles. The active hormone in Pregnyl is naturally present in the male body during puberty, stimulating the descent and increase in size of the testicles and promoting secondary sexual characteristics. Although it is a female hormone present during ovulation and pregnancy, it is easily absorbed and utilized by the male body.
How is Pregnyl used?
Pregnyl can be administered via intramuscular or subcutaneous injection and is easy to store and self-inject. It comes in 1500IU and 5000IU vials, which should be mixed with bacteriostatic water for injection. Intramuscular administration is preferred by bodybuilders for its speed and effectiveness, but subcutaneous injections are easier to perform and reduce the risk of scarring, although absorption is slower.
When used intramuscularly, Pregnyl acts quickly, with some bodybuilders noticing an increase in testosterone levels within hours. It is most commonly used at the end of a steroid cycle, shortly before post-cycle therapy (PCT), to help the body restore natural testosterone levels.
Precautions
It is recommended to stop using Pregnyl 7-10 days before starting PCT. Prolonged use may interfere with the pituitary gland’s natural production of LH, delaying natural recovery. Pregnyl may increase estrogen levels, causing gynecomastia or worsening existing symptoms, especially when testosterone levels increase rapidly. To counteract these effects, it is advisable to combine it with an anti-aromatizer or an estrogen receptor blocker.
Advantages
- Can be stored for a long time (if not mixed).
- Fast and effective.
- No known contraindications with other drugs.
- Natural rather than synthetic hormones.
- Helps the body produce natural testosterone.
Disadvantages
- May cause a false positive on a pregnancy test.
- May increase estrogen levels and cause gynecomastia.
- Do not It should be used alone.
- It may temporarily block natural LH production during use.
Conclusion
Pregnyl alone is not effective for bulking or cutting, nor as a post-cycle therapy. However, in combination with other medications, it can help reverse some of the negative effects of steroids and facilitate the body’s recovery after a heavy or prolonged cycle. While Pregnyl can cause increased estrogen and gynecomastia, use with the right supplements can balance these effects. It is one of the most effective methods for stimulating natural testosterone production in the critical period between the end of a cycle and the start of post-cycle therapy. We do not recommend using this product.
